Human rights activist J.S. Bandukwala on Friday said he and others would continue to support fellow activist Teesta Setalwad and IPS officers Sanjiv Bhatt and Kuldip Sharma.
He said that human rights activists in Gujarat had formed a group called `Gujarat Bachav Nyay Samiti’ to support Ms. Setalwad, who took up the cause of 2002 Gujarat riot victims.
B. A. Desai, convener, Gujarat Bachav Nyay Samiti, said, “We oppose any move to implicate Teesta Setalwad in cases, which is aimed at silencing the victims of riots.”
The Supreme Court today stayed criminal proceedings against Ms. Setalwad in Gujarat court, for her alleged role in the case of exhumation of bodies of riot victims in 2006 at Pandarwada.
She recently also moved a local court for anticipatory bail, in connection with the case where a former employee of her NGO is accused of manipulating affidavits of witnesses in a riot case.
