Senior Indian Forest Service officer of Maharashtra cadre Vilas Bardekar, who was abducted by suspected cadres of insurgent National Democratic Front of Boroland (Ranjan Daimary faction) near Assam-Arunachal Pradesh border, was released on Sunday after 83 days.

A 1984 batch IFS officer, Mr. Bardekar was abducted from a forest in West Kameng district of Arunachal Pradesh.

Sources said a huge ransom was demanded. But there was no official word whether any amount was paid.
