AAP warns DERC against tariff hike

August 06, 2015 12:00 am | Updated March 29, 2016 01:29 pm IST - NEW DELHI:

Aam Aadmi Party legislators have threatened the Delhi Electricity Regulatory Commission (DERC) of taking to streets if it resorts to any power tariff revision this year. Consumers, on the other hand, have alleged that the power regulator has committed gross irregularities in appointment of various posts within it.

The 10 AAP MLAs who showed up at the public hearing organised by DERC for fixation of annual power tariffs on Tuesday, unanimously demanded the regulator to wait until results of the CAG audit on discoms were out. AAP MLA from Chandni Chowk Alka Lamba said that power tariffs have been increased by nearly 100 percent since 2011, whereas, Rajouri Garden MLA Jarnail Singh said, “Initially, AT&C losses were at 56 per cent and the DERC had then told Delhiites that power tariffs would reduce once these losses are reduced. But now, AT&C losses have come down to 15 per cent, yet tariffs continue to hit the roof.”
