The Delhi unit of the Congress hit out against the “nepotistic” recruitment by the Delhi government in various departments and accused the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) of trying to outsource governance.
Speaking at a press conference on Tuesday, Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee spokesperson Sharmistha Mukherjee said that while the AAP had promised to rid the government of “nepotism and cronyism” it was “perpetuating” the same.
Ms. Mukherjee questioned the criteria for appointing 940 estate managers in schools, hiring 85 new people for the Delhi Commission for Women and appointing 200 AAP volunteers in the Delhi Jal Board.
‘AAP blurring the line between party and govt’
Citing an RTI reply, Ms. Mukherjee said that it appeared that there was “no minimum education qualification” for applicants for the estate manager job.
Ms. Mukherjee said the government had bypassed the Delhi Subordinate Services Selection Board, which is supposed to handle recruitments of Group-B (non-gazetted) and Group-C government and municipal officials.
The Congress leader said that by hiring AAP volunteers, workers and leaders, the government was “blurring the distinction between a political party and a government”.
Accusing the government “betraying the youth” of Delhi, Ms. Mukherjee said there were 1.58 lakh people registered with the Delhi Employment Exchange, but only 121 had got jobs in the past 18 months.
