Aam Aadmi Party's (AAP) national spokesperson Shazia Ilmi was attacked with stones in Neemuch, 428km west of Bhopal, by men shouting slogans supporting the BJP's prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi.

Ms. Ilmi was addressing a small gathering at Kamal Chowk on Sunday night, along with Mandsaur candidate Paras Saklecha, when more than a dozen men gathered a few metres away. They shouted "Har Har Modi" and "Arvind Kejriwal is a traitor" and threw blue construction aggregate or blue metal stones at the stage.

Mr. Sakelcha and Ms. Ilmi were hit but no major injuries were reported. "A child was also hit on her shoulder by a stone," Mr. Sakelcha told The Hindu .

Ms. Ilmi continued to give her speech after ducking the projectiles and said, “The broom (AAP's symbol) will triumph over your stones, country-made guns and swords.”

Later, she told reporters, “This shows their fear. The Modi wave is a sponsored wave. Poor Rahul ji is like a sweet teddy bear and we wish he grows up.”

Ms. Ilmi went on to participate in a road show in neighbouring Mandsaur.

The BJP's Sudhir Gupta and the Congress' incumbent Meenakshi Natarajan are contesting from the seat.

Neemuch Kotwali police have registered a case against unknown assailants. City Superintendent of Police Pankaj Dixit said that video footage of the scene will be examined to identify the miscreants.
