Bollywood actor Aamir Khan on Sunday approached the Mumbai police after an alleged hate campaign launched against him and his television show ‘Satyamev Jayate’ on social networking sites.

According to the actor, false and malicious messages are circulating through various electronic media including Whatsapp, Facebook, Twitter and other social media networks, claiming the donations sought in his program are going to a trust working only for a particular religion and people belonging to it.

“I would like to clarify that all donations sought in SMJ are used and channelized for entirely deserving and secular causes, contrary to the content of the highly mischievous/malicious insinuations in the messages, being circulated by vested and unscrupulous interest,” Mr. Khan clarified on his official Facebook page.

Mr. Khan met Sadanand Date, Joint Commissioner of Mumbai Police (Crime) on Sunday regarding the matter. An inquiry has been initiated in the matter.

“We have received his complaint and it has been given to the Cyber Crime Investigation Cell. We have asked him for certain additional information and we would take cognizance of his complaint as we get the information,” said Mr. Date.
