“A strange way of communication”

December 28, 2010 12:09 am | Updated November 17, 2021 03:19 am IST - NEW DELHI:

The Communist Party of India (Marxist) found it “strange” that a letter from Home Minister P. Chidambaram to West Bengal Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee appeared in the media even before it reached the Writers' Building in Kolkata.

“This is a strange way of communication between the Home Minister and the Chief Minister of a State. The media is fully briefed about the letter even before the Chief Minister gets it,” said the CPI(M), demanding an explanation from Mr. Chidambaram. “This shows that the purpose of the letter was to serve the political interests of the Trinamool Congress, which is part of the Union government.”

The party was reacting to the detailed media reporting on the contents of a letter written by Mr. Chidambaram asking the State government to disarm CPI(M) cadres. These reports appeared in the media on Saturday. However, the letter reached Mr. Bhattacharjee only on Monday.
