PANAJI: The Delhi Chief Minister and the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) national convenor Arvind Kejriwal on Saturday said the party will punish those indicted in the illegal mining scam if it comes to power in the State.

Mr. Kejriwal was addressing a rally in South Goa during his three-day visit. He said the AAP would restart the mining industry in Goa, “which would be conducted in a sustained and honest manner.” Mr. Kejriwal is scheduled to address eight meetings in Goa.

He criticised Defence Minister and former Goa Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar for failing to fulfil his 2012 election promise — when he was contesting for the CM’s office — that he will act against those involved in the scam.

“Instead, the BJP[-led] government under Mr. Parrikar, chose to dump the Justice (retd.) M.B. Shah Commission report on illegal mining,” Mr. Kejriwal said.

“From 2007 to 2012, during the Congress’s tenure, there was so much illegal mining. The Shah Commission said it was a Rs. 36000 crore scam. Mr. Parrikar had promised that the Congressmen involved in scam will be punished. But after five years there was no enquiry,” he added.
