A team of officials of the Nuclear Power Corporation of India led by its Chairman and Managing Director S. K. Jain will be initiating pre-project activities during a three-day visit to Haryana from December 2, Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda announced on Saturday.
Disclosing that the Union Government had approved setting up of a 1,400-MW nuclear power plant at Kumharia village in Fatehabad district during the ongoing 11th Five Year Plan period, Mr. Hooda said the team would have detailed discussions with senior Haryana officials for obtaining different facilities, including land and water, required for setting up the project and finalise the future course of action.

Thanking United Progressive Alliance chairperson Sonia Gandhi and Prime Minister Manmohan Singh for approving of the site in Haryana for setting up the nuclear power project, Mr. Hooda asserted that this decision demonstrated the confidence the Centre had in the infrastructural facilities available in Haryana.
The nuclear project would not only provide cheap and clean power to Haryana and neighbouring States but also the investment of more than Rs.12,000 crore would provide a tremendous boost to the development of the State in general and the districts of Fatehabad, Sirsa and Hisar in particular, he added.
The State Government has already appointed the Haryana Power Generation Corporation as the nodal agency for the project.
Mr. Hooda said his government would acquire about 1,000 hectares (2,471 acres) of land around the villages of Kajalheri, Gorakhpur and Kumharia in Fatehabad for setting up
the project. It would also provide 320 cusecs of water for the project. In the first stage, two units of 700 MW each will be established at the site.
