Meerut BJP leader booked for poll violation

A case has been registered against vice-president of BJP’s Meerut unit, Vivek Rastogi, for violating the Model Code of Conduct for allowing telecast of party programme Udaan without getting prior permission from the Election Commission. This was one of the first few cases registered against political leaders on the direction of the EC since the MCC came into force on January 4.

“We are investigating the matter. A case has been lodged against Section 188, 171(J) for violation of MCC against Vivek Rastogi,” Akhilesh Kumar, tation house officer of Jani police station told The Hindu .

Mr. Rastogi had organised the programme in an area falling under Jani police station in Siwal Khas Assembly constituency on Friday in which Union Textile Minister Smriti Irani interacted with women and girls across 75 centres in 403 Assembly constituencies of Uttar Pradesh through videoconferencing.
