Six opposition parties have joined hands to fight the ruling Congress and BJP in the ensuing elections in Manipur. Making this announcement on Saturday the CPI state secretary Moirangthem Nara said that six parties, the CPI, the CPI(M), the NCP, the AAP, JD (U) and the Manipur National Democratic Front to form a Left Democratic Front. He said that it will try to form the next ministry.

Out of the six parties the NCP was the only party which had won a seat in the 2012 elections. The winning NCP MLA Laisom Ibomcha had recently joined Congress. Though CPI could not win a single seat, it was in the Congress-led coalition for the past two terms. CPI was shown the way out as Congress felt there was no point in sacrificing ministerial berths to CPI as Congress had absolute majority.

Other local parties like the Manipur People's Party and the Manipur State Congress Party are yet to join the LDF. Though the MPP had failed to open account in the last elections the MSCP got 5 seats.
