NAGPUR: The Nagpur Bench of the Bombay High Court on Thursday disqualified Bharatiya Janata Party MLA from Gadchiroli (ST) Deorao Holi from the Assembly membership.

A Special Bench of Justice Z.A. Haq disqualified Mr. Holi on a petition by Narayan Jambhule, who contested from the seat as a Forward Bloc candidate in 2014.

Petitioner’s lawyer Pradip Wathore said Mr. Holi was a Class II government employee and an inquiry was going on against him when he filed his nomination for the Assembly elections. “Mr. Holi had managed to tender his resignation in back date but the resignation could not be accepted if an inquiry was going on against an official,” the counsel said.

Mr. Jambhule said he was looking forward to contesting election from the same seat again.

Mr. Holi said he would appeal to the Supreme Court against the HC’s verdict.
