Goa BJP election committee announces 21 candidates

PANAJI: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Goa State Election Committee (SEC) on Friday announced a list of proposed candidates for 21 constituencies for the Assembly elections due on February 4.

South Goa MP and spokesperson of BJP Narendra Sawaikar said the SEC had recommended one name each for the 21 out of 40 constituencies to the Central Parliamentary Board.

List for the remaining 16 constituencies would be announced by Monday, and filing of nominations will begin on January 11.

According to the list, in North Goa, Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar will be contesting from Mandrem, Deputy Chief Minister Francis D’Souza from Mapusa, Water Resources Minister Dayanand Mandrekar from Siolim, and Tourism Minister Dilip Parulekar from Saligao, among others.

In South Goa, Industries Minister Mahadev Naik would be contesting from Shiroda, and Minister for Museums, Alina Saldanna, from Cortalim, among others.

BJP has announced that it will contest 37 constituencies in the State elections.
