Mohammad Shahabuddin’s selfie went viral on social media.

Even though the Supreme Court reserved its order on Tuesday whether to shift former Rashtriya Janata Dal MP Mohd Shahabuddin from Siwan jail, an FIR was lodged against him for allegedly taking a selfie inside prison. The photo had gone viral on social media.

“An FIR has been registered against him and an unknown person in the selfie matter,” said Vinay Pratap Singh, officer-in-charge of the Siwan town police station.

The case was registered by the Superintendent of Siwan Jail Bidhu Bhardwaj on January 14 but it was officially confirmed later.

Known as the strongman of Siwan, Mr. Shahabuddin is currently facing trial in 45 cases, including one in Jharkhand.

Earlier, his much-publicised release from Bhagalpur jail after 13 years and his statement thereafter that “Nitish Kumar is Chief Minister of circumstances” had created a stir in the political circles of the State.
