: The lanes of the walled-city offer hidden treats all year around and it is a foodie’s delight to explore the myriad of offerings.
Come Ramzan, the lanes come alive at night — bathed in a festive spirit — bringing to fore the cultural traditions of the old city and the many delicacies it has to offer.
The more adventurous Delhiite or visitor to the city may have set off to explore the culinary offerings on their own but to make things a bit organised so that the best offerings are not missed, the Delhi government has tied up with “Delhi Walks” — a flagship brand of “India City Walks” — to come up with a night walk concept to commence with Iftar Experience evening at Jama Masjid.
Delhi Tourism Minister Kapil Mishra will launch the first walk on June 8.
Vivid experience
Mr. Mishra called the initiative a milestone in reviving the vibrant and beautiful nightlife of Delhi.
The Minister added that the nightwalk in the heritage city of Shahjahanabad will include mouthwatering cuisines, intriguing storytelling sessions, vivid cultural engagement and authentic Ramzan experiences.
The organisers of Delhi Walks say that an Iftar evening at Old Delhi’s Jama Masjid is bristling with a wide range of sumptuous vegetarian and non-vegetarian cuisines and the air is infused with the delicious scent of spices and syrupy desserts.
They say that visitors will get to enter the sacred precincts of Old Delhi’s Jama Masjid and witness thousands of people breaking their roza with members of their community.
The walk will then continue to offer participants a panoramic view of Shahjahanabad’s efflorescent culture and at the same time explore the treats on offer in the alleys like Matia Mahal and Chawri Bazaar.
Nine walks planned
Nine night walk events will be held in June that will begin at 6 p.m. outside Jama Masjid Gate no. 3.
