Centre clears names of directors for 10 IIMs

AHMEDABAD: The Centre on Friday appointed directors to 10 Indian Institute of Management (IIMs) including IIM Bangalore where Prof. G Raghuram from IIM Ahmedabad has been appointed as director.

The order was issued by the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT) after the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) headed by the Prime Minister Narendra Modi cleared their names.

Out of the 20 IIMs, 13 were running headless for several months due to delay in appointment of new directors. The issue of vacancies in various IIMs was recently raised in Parliament also.

Prof. Raghuram has been a faculty of IIM-Ahmedabad since 1985. He was also Dean (Faculty) there from September 2013 to December 2015. He has been appointed in place of Sushil Vachani, whose resignation from the post of director of IIM Bangalore has been accepted by the government.

All appointments are for the period of five years or till the incumbent attains the age of 65 years, whichever is earliest. According to the appointment order, Shailendra Singh and Dheeraj Sharma will be the head of IIM in Ranchi and Rohtak, respectively. Bharat Bhasker has been named the director of IIM-Raipur in Chhatisgarh.

Mahadeo Prasad Jaiswal and L.S. Murty will be heading the IIMs in Sambalpur and Nagpur respectively, the order said.

Prof. Ganesan Kannabiran and Prof. Neelu Rohmetra will be directors of IIMs in Bodh Gaya and Sirmaur in Himachal Pradesh, respectively, whereas Chandrasekhar Mylavarapu will head the institute in Vishakapatnam, and Bhimaraya Metri IIM-Tiruchirappalli.
