The body of an eight-year-old girl was found in an isolated place at Sulibele, near Hoskote, on Thursday evening.
The police identified the victim as a second standard student of a government school. Her parents work in a hollow brick factory. They said that the child was raped before being murdered.
The incident came to light when the child’s parents went in search of her after returning from work and not finding her at home. After her body was found, the Sulibele police were informed.
The police have got CCTV footage from a nearby shop. It shows the child being led away by a middle-aged man hours before the murder.
