Nearly 80% voters cast their votes on Tuesday in the re-poll ordered by the Election Commission of India (ECI) in Acquem polling booth at the Margao constituency in South Goa, Election officials said.
"As many as 632 out of the eligible 791 voters in the polling booth area cast votes," a senior official of the Chief Electoral Office, Goa said.
Polling at polling station 8 at the government primary school in Aquem, Margao, was cancelled on February 4, after election officials posted at the booth failed to delete the sample votes which were logged in the electronic voting machine and which, according to procedure have to be deleted, before the actual voting takes place.
The ECI on Sunday had ordered the re-polling at the booth following a request made by the poll officials in Goa.
Former Goa Chief Minister Digambar Kamat is contesting against BJP's Sharmad Raiturkar and Aam Aadmi Party's Santosh Raiturkar for the Margao seat.
Excluding the vote-tally during the re-poll, 82.23 per cent voters exercised their franchise on February 4 State assembly elections. The results are scheduled to be declared on March 11.
