A 75-year-old man was arrested late on Saturday evening on the charge of molesting a four-year-old girl in Jadavpur area here.
Sukumar Jana was arrested on the basis of a complaint lodged by the family of the child. The complaint was lodged at the Purba Jadvadpur police station.
According to the police, the accused is the neighbour of the victim.
It all happened on a day when the nation was mourning the death of the Delhi gang-rape victim and Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee issued a call to the Centre to enact strict laws to deal with perpetrators of such crimes.
