Seven persons have been arrested in connection with the rape of a 20-year-old Japanese tourist here on Sunday night. The main accused, Ajit Singh, 24, is still absconding.

The police say investigations have revealed that Ajit Singh, a private tourist guide, and his friends planned to sexually assault the woman repeatedly by confining her in a room in the office of a cooperative society building near Mojamabad on the outskirts of the city.

Those arrested have been identified as Wahid, Abrar, Shivraj, Rajbir, Ramvir, Ravinder Singh and Dharamvir. Wahid and Abrar are Ajit Singh’s friends and had arranged for the room, while others are his cousins and relatives who helped him escape from Jaipur, the police said here on Tuesday.

Befriends victim The police said Ajit Singh befriended the victim near Jal Mahal on Jaipur-Amber Road by offering to take her pictures.

Since he spoke good English, she agreed to hire him as a guide and was first taken to some tourist spots after which he took her to the house of Shivraj Singh, his cousin.

There Ajit Singh introduced Shivraj Singh’s wife as his sister and took their pictures. He then took her to Dharamvir’s house for dinner.

Highly impressed by the courtesies offered at the two places, the victim agreed to get dropped at her hotel after dinner, the police said.

In the meantime, Ajit Singh had reportedly tied up with Wahid and Abrar and arranged for the room, the keys of which were with Wahid.

Instead of taking the victim to her hotel, he took her away from the city and assaulted her by threatening to kill her.

Subsequently, he robbed her of her phone, Rs. 4,000 in cash and a camera. Ajit Singh then asked her to sit on the motorcycle and took her to Moujamabad, where Wahid and Abrar were waiting as per the plan.

As Ajit Singh and his friends, asked her to get into the room, the victim heard a car coming on the National Highway and ran for help. However, instead of helping her, the men in the car tried to drag her into the car.

Passer-by came to the rescue Meanwhile, a passer-by came to her rescue by raising an alarm which alerted the local people. On seeing the people, Ajit Singh and his friends escaped from the spot. The villagers then informed the police. The police had formed several teams to crack the case and managed to make arrests with the help of sketches.
