500 houses washed away in West Bengal floods

As the Khoirbari area of Jalpaiguri district (West Bengal) have been experiencing heavy rains, the river Kuchidiana is overflowing and around 500 houses has been inundated by the flooded waters, official sources said today.

The Block Development Officer (BDO) and other officials have rushed to the area to provide relief to the affected people, the sources said adding the district administration was making efforts to shift them to higher places.

National Parks to remain close for three months

All the three National Parks in Jalpaiguri district - Chapramari, Buxa and Jaldapara - would remain closed to tourists from today till September 16, Forest department sources said.

The Parks have been closed as this time is the breeding period for the animals. The DFO said a record number of tourists have visited the three National Parks this year.
