Five people sustained injuries in a communal clash during a wedding procession in Ahmedabad on Monday night, police said.
The incident took place in the Vatva area, where members of one community crashed into a wedding procession of another community.
“They were carrying sticks and joined the dancing. When objections were raised, there was an altercation, which resulted in a clash. Around five persons from both sides were inured. They were hospitalised,” police told The Hindu .
An FIR was registered under IPC Sections 143, 147, 149 related to rioting and unlawful assembly; 324 (causing hurt with a weapon), 323 (punishment for causing hurt), 294 (related to obscene acts and songs), 337 (causing hurt by act endangering life and personal safety). The police have also invoked Section 3 (i) (v) of the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act for wrongfully interfering with the enjoyment of STs – in this case – of their rights over land, premises and water.
The police have made five arrests so far, P.C. Baranda, DCP told The Hindu .
