Five persons were arrested smuggling guns, bombs and other ammunition by the Assam Rifles along the Manipur-Myanmar border, said official sources. 24 Assam Rifles personnel at Khudengthabi intercepted a jeep near the international border, coming from Moreh, the border town, towards Imphal.

The smugglers tried to bring in two AK 47 rifles and five China made hand grenades. The five tribal gun runners were handed over to the police.

In another incident, 16 Assam Rifles conducted raids in some villages in Imphal east district on Friday. They recovered one M-16 rifle, two pistols, assorted ammunition and other military equipment. No arrest has been made as yet.
