45 p.c. turnout in Jamshedpur bypoll

The Jamshedpur Lok Sabha by-poll recorded 45 per cent polling on Friday. Twenty-one candidates were in the fray.

In the urban areas, only 30 per cent votes were cast, while in the rural areas 60 per cent of people exercised their franchise.

According to official sources, “the polling began at 7 a.m. and ended at 3 p.m.

The votes will be counted on July 4.

The post of the Chief Minister has been lying vacant since the resignation of Arjun Munda from the Lok Sabha following his victory in the Kharsawan Assembly by-election in February.

The by-poll was conducted in the backdrop of a bandh called by Maoists.
