Forty-one people, said to be members of the outlawed Communist Party of India (Maoist), surrendered to the police in the insurgency-hit Narayanpur district of south Chhattisgarh on Saturday, according to the Chhattisgarh police.

‘Major success’

“In a major success of the consistent anti-Maoist campaign, which is underway in Bastar, 41 Maoists including three women from Benur area of Narayanpur decided to leave the path of violence and join the social mainstream on Saturday,” said Narayanpur district Superintendent of Police Abhishek Meena.

“They were active in the Maoist organisation for over seven years and involved in many anti-police and criminal activities,” the SP added.
