4 more U.P. cities to get metro

September 17, 2014 03:19 am | Updated 03:19 am IST - LUCKNOW:

After Lucknow, the Uttar Pradesh government has decided to run metro rail in at least four more cities, including Varanasi — a highly congested city and major tourist destination — represented by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Chief Secretary Alok Ranjan has asked officials to prepare detailed project reports for running the metro rail in Kanpur, Allahabad and Meerut too. Government sources said a techno-feasibility study had already been done.

Mr. Ranjan directed officials to push metro work in cities such as Ghaziabad, Noida and Greater Noida adjoining Delhi. The plan is to ensure speedy expansion of the network in cities neighbouring Delhi.
