Four persons were killed and seven injured in a clash between two communities in Kaliganj block in West Bengal’s Nadia district on Tuesday. A senior police official confirmed the incident to The Hindu , and said that the situation had been brought under control.

“This is a fact (that four persons died). There is communal angle to the incident. We are conducting raids in the related localities, search operations and engaging in area domination,” the senior official told The Hindu on condition of anonymity. He, however, refused to disclose the identity of the women and the men killed in the incident. The villagers told The Hindu that the situation was “extremely tense” and could go out of control any time.

The clash was first reported in Juranpur village in Nadia when a procession was allegedly attacked by a community. The incident resulted in heavy bombing and firing from both sides.
