Seven minors were rescued and four persons arrested in connection with child trafficking in Haridwar.

Ram Singh Meena, Additional Director-General of Police (law and order) said, “The children rescued were all below five years of age. The persons accused of trafficking allegedly sold the children to couples who had no children.”

The children rescued were from Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh and Jammu and Kashmir, Mr Meena said, adding that the parents of some were still to be traced. The ones held were from Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh, and Haryana.

Being a tourist place, cases of child trafficking were rampant in Haridwar, Mr Meena said.
