Chhattisgarh Assembly witnessed uproarious scenes on Monday over the issue of denial of bonus to paddy farmers and alleged irregularities in paddy procurement process.

Congress MLAs led by state Congress chief Bupesh Baghel and the Leader of Opposition T.S.Singh Deo demanded immediate discussion on the issue after the question hour.

However, the speaker refused permission for discussion saying that it was “a policy issue of the government”.

Annoyed over the denial, Congress MLAs trouped to the well of the house and started shouting slogans against the government.

The speaker, Mr.Gourishankar Agrawal suspended 31 Congress MLAs for the day amidst pandemonium as per the rule of Chhattisgarh assembly which automatically suspends any member who troupes to the well of the house trying to disrupt house proceedings.

However, Congress MLAs continued to sit in the well of the house shouting slogans against the government.

“The BJP had promised during its election campaign to buy every single grain of paddy and now they are going back on their promise,” alleged Mr.Baghel.

The house was adjourned for the day amidst pandemonium, but Congress MLAs continued their protest outside the house by shouting slogans against the government.

Defending the government over the issue, state agriculture minister Brijmohan Agrawal said, "We did make promise to buy paddy and to provide bonus to farmers but those promises will be fulfilled in the five year term of the government. They (Congress) should not disturb the house proceedings on this issue.”

The Congress party has declared that it will carry out a “Kisan Majdoor Nyay Yatra” (Farmers’ justice march) from Balodabajar district of the state on March 11.

“The yatra would reach Raipur on March 16 and would gherao the assembly ,” informed Congress Media cell chief Shilesh Nitin Trivedi.
