3 Vaishno Devi pilgrims among 7 killed in J&K

Three pilgrims on their way to the Vaishno Devi cave shrine died and 10 persons sustained injuries when a Tempo Traveler collided with an oil tanker at Nagrota on the Jammu-Srinagar national highway on Friday.

Sapna Mandal, Surinder and Deena Gupta, residents of Albar, Chhattisgarh were killed in the accident. Officials said the injured had been evacuated to a hospital in Jammu.

In another road accident, a Tavera carrying a group of drivers from Pulwama for a picnic to Pahalgam, in Kashmir, skidded off the road and plunged into Lidder Nallah near Nunwan, the base camp of Amarnath pilgrims, near Pahalgam late on Thursday night.

Ramesh Kumar Jalla, senior Superintendent of Police, Anantnag, told The Hindu that four drivers died and only one person survived. He said the bodies of Bilal Ahmad Dar of Lajoura, Lateef Ahmad Bhat, Omar Ahangar and Danish Bhat, residents of Puchhal Pulwama, were fished out from the rivulet and handed over to their respective families.
