Twenty-nine cadres of various banned organisations, including the Nationalist Socialist Council of Nagaland (NSCN) Khaplang and Isak-Muviah factions gave up their arms at Leimakhong, headquarters of the 57 Mountain Division in Nagaland.
At a ceremony on Wednesday, Additional Director General of Police, Law and Order, V. Jathang, along with Major General Binoy Poonnen, General Officer Commanding, Red Shield Division, and senior Army officials accepted the arms presented by the cadres, an official release here said.
The decision of the cadres, which included seven of the NSCN (Khole), six of the NSCN (Khaplang), seven of the Federal Government of Nagaland, three of the People's United Liberation Front, two each of United National Liberation Front and the Naga National Council and one each of the NSCN (I-M) and Kanglei Yawol Kanna Lup, was facilitated by troops of the Red Shield Division.
Maj. Gen. Binoy Poonnen praised them for their courage and wisdom in choosing to become responsible citizens of the state, and contribute to progressive realisation of the desire and aspirations of citizens.
Assuring them of assistance in their rehabilitation process, he emphasised that security forces would continue to encourage such endeavours, by insurgent groups, both collectively and individually, and continue to act as a facilitator in their rehabilitation.
At the ceremony, a senior functionary of the United Tribal Liberation Army said they have decided to suspend their operations and join the national mainstream.
