Twenty seven Maoists surrendered before the police in Bihar’s Muzaffarpur district on Thursday, the police said.

While The police are verifying their organisational ranks, Additional Director-General of Police Gupteshwar Pandey told The Hindu that they were “active” Maoists and had several cases against them.

“They are not adivasis, but belong to Dalit communities and most backward classes,” he said.
