Police commandos of Imphal West rounded up 21 suspects during a combing operation on Thursday morning at Sangaiprou near the Imphal airport. All of them, believed to be tribals, were taken to the police station for verification.
Police refused to say anything about the possible identity of these suspects. It may be recalled that general security in these areas had been beefed up following the gruesome murder of a police sub inspector, Krishnadas Mayengbam on June 21 night. During the drunken brawl the police officer was speared to death. No arrest has been made despite agitations by the people.
