Two persons were killed and 10 others, including seven policemen, suffered bullet and splinter injuries at Jyatsesagi village in Bardhaman district on Wednesday when “miscreants backed by a political party” attacked a police team that was there in connection with a case.
Claiming the victims to be their supporters, the Trinamool Congress leadership alleged that Communist Party of India (Marxist) cadres along with the police raided the village and attacked its supporters in an attempt to take political control of the village.
The party demanded the resignation of Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee for “instigating the police and his party men to launch joint attacks on its supporters” and announced that it would observe “Black Day” across the State in protest against the incident.
