April 28, 2015 02:10 am | Updated April 02, 2016 06:53 pm IST - MEERUT:

Despite repeated assurances of help from Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav, suicides by farmers continues, underlining the agrarian crisis in the State.

On Sunday, two farmers ended their lives in Meerut and Barabanki.

The body of Asaram Gautam, 35, was found hanging outside the office of the Barabanki District Magistrate.

A few hundred km away, Sodan Singh, 53, a farmer of Hasanpur in Meerut, consumed poison.

His family said he was depressed after the wheat grown on his three bighas was destroyed.
