Three teams consisting of 19 employees of Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP) have been selected to receive the coveted “Viswakarma Rashtriya Purskar” this year, an award instituted by the government for workers in the country.

With this year’s awards, altogether 53 employees of RSP have so far achieved the glory. The award given every year recognises and rewards workers for their innovativeness, quality, safety and working conditions and housekeeping.

Out of the 28 teams selected to receive the award, three teams are from RSP, the plant sources said, adding that each team will be awarded with cash prize of Rs 25,000 and certificates of merit.

The seven member team comprising Ajit Kumar Panda, Sanjay Kumar Pandam, Rashmi Ranjan Rout, Dilip Kumar Patel, Ratikanta Sahoo, Gobind Chandra Patel and Chaitanya Prasad Hembram of Ore Bedding and Blending Plant (OBBP) have been selected to receive the award for conceiving and implementing a project regarding installation of anti-collision devices in stackers, used for raw materials.

The modification will lead to an annual recurring savings of Rs 2.2 crores.

The second team comprising Anil Kumar Mishra, Dileswar Mohanta, Bijay Kumar Maharana, Bibhuti Bhusan Biswal, Jitendra Nath Mohanta and Nilachal Dash of Blast Furnace department will be conferred the award for their enterprising job that will save the company about Rs 18 crores annually.

The third six-member team from same blast furnace department comprising Chhotu Singh, Ashok Kumar Naik, Sanjay Kumar Lenka, Pawal Topno, Suresh Chandra Dalabehera and Alekh Chandra Prusty have been selected to receive the award for ensuring smooth functioning of the Belt filter press of the gas cleaning plant that will lead to a one-time saving of Rs 30 lakh and annual recurring savings of about Rs 63 lakh, the source said.
