At least 16 fishermen are reportedly missing after six fishing trawlers capsized in the high seas off the Okha coast in Jamnagar district of Gujarat on Friday.

Police sources said that five of the six boats were registered at Navsari in south Gujarat, while one boat was registered in Porbandar.

The boats capsized in squally weather caused by a low pressure which was centered around Nalia in the Kutch district.

The boats carried 52 fishermen, but local fishermen managed to rescue 36 of them. The boats had set sail from their respective ports much before the rough weather warning was issued by the weather bureau on Thursday .

Authorities said all efforts were being made to locate the missing fishermen, even as the weather bureau forecast stormy weathers in the Kutch-Saurashtra region in the next 48 hours.
