A day after the Union Home Ministry reviewed the Maoist scenario in Orissa, 1,300 more CRPF personnel today arrived for deployment in Mayurbhanj and Keonjhar districts.

While 900 personnel of central paramilitary force were posted at Baripada, district headquarters of Mayurbhanj, 400 were sent to Keonjhar district.

“We have already received some CRPF personnel and more forces are likely to arrive,” Keonjhar SP Asish Kumar Singh told reporters.

The arrival of additional central forces were in response to the State government’s demand for three more battalions (about 1,620 personnel) for deployment in the two districts.

The State already has nine battalions of central forces comprising five battalions of BSF and four of CRPF.

The five BSF battalions were deployed in worst-hit Malkangiri district and four of CRPF stationed in other southern districts.

“We are hopeful of getting the remaining personnel soon,” a home department official said.
