Thirteen Naxalites have been arrested from Bijapur district of Chhattisgarh, police said on Monday.

Eight Naxalites were held on Sunday from Ponjer village in Bijapur police limits while five others were apprehended from jungles near Potenar village, Bijapur Superintendent of Police Avinash Mohanty told PTI .

The Maoists were held after a tip-off on the Naxal hideouts in the village followed by a combing operation by an anti-naxal team, which cordoned off the area on Sunday, and made the arrests, he said.

The arrested outlaws have been charged for murder, attempt to murder, attack on police teams and destruction of property.

About 16 cases have been registered against eight Naxals and two cases against the rest, Mr. Mohanty said.
