The police have apprehended five ‘juveniles’ for the gang-rape of a minor girl in a locality under Basistha police station in Guwahati.

The victim, aged about 12 years, was playing with the five when they lured her to a hut and raped her from Saturday night till wee hours of Sunday, the police said.

Senior Superintendent of Police A.P. Tiwari said a medical examination of the girl confirmed the rape. The victim’s mother, a daily wage-earner, lodged a First Information Report at the Basistha police station on Sunday. He said that condition of the victim was stable and she was sent to State Home for Women and being provided the treatment as advised by doctors. All the five accused have been sent to Observation Home at Boko in Kamrup district.

“Within few hours of lodging of the FIR, all the five accused were apprehended. They have claimed to be juveniles. We have carried out ossification tests on them to ascertain if they are juveniles or not and have been awaiting the reports,” Mr. Tiwari told The Hindu .
