12 injured in explosion in Tata Steel plant

Twelve people were injured in an explosion in an ammonia scrubber at the coke plant in the Tata Steel here on Monday.

There was a minor explosion in an ammonia scubber at the coke plant at around 10.30 a.m. leaving 12 people injured, Amresh Sinha, Head of Corporate Communication of Tata Steel, said.

Of them, ten were contract labourers and two employees of the company, he said.

The injured were taken to the Tata Main Hospital.

The area of explosion was shut down for maintenance work, Sinha said.

An internal probe has been ordered to find out the cause of the explosion, he said.
