11 artistes killed in Goalpara road accident

Eleven passengers of a maxi van carrying a cultural troupe died at Dhupdhora along National Highway 37 in lower Assam's Goalpara district early Wednesday morning around 5 am, when the maxi van collied head on with a truck.

Police said, while eight including a young singer Suman Mahanta died on the spot, three others succumbed to injuries on way to hospital.

Police said the cultural troupe included Bihu dancers.

The accident occured when the cultural troupe was returning to Guwahati after perfoming at a function in Matia, Goalapara district on Tuesday night.
