The yellow signal has been hoisted on the Fulohar river and about 100 metre of the embankment at Bhalukapoint in Malda district’s Harishchandrapur II Block has been breached by flood waters, official sources said on Saturday.

Due to heavy downpour in the upper catchment areas the yellow signal has been hoisted at the Fulohar river at Teljala Harishchandrapur, the sources said.

Many low lying areas in Harishandrapur II Block and Ratua I Block have been flooded due to the rise in the water level, they said.

Around 100 metre of the embankment at Bhalukapoint in Harishchandrapur has been breached and flood water was gushing in through the breached area, Mahananda Embankment Division Sub-Divisional Officer Salil Kumar Pal told PTI.

Mr. Pal said work was going on to repair the breach.
