One migrant worker from Punjab was killed and six others were injured in a twin bomb blast on Wednesday night at Pallel Lamkhai in Thoubal district.

Sources said that suspected militants activated two powerful bombs around 10.40 p.m. near the shacks where migrant workers engaged in the construction of a private house were sleeping. The shacks are located around half kilometer from the police station at Pallel.

Lalit Kumar from Ambala died on the spot and six other labourers, all from Silchar in Assam, sustained serious injuries. They were rushed to Regional Institute of Medical Sciences, Imphal for treatment. Hospital sources said that the death toll will increase as all of them have sustained life threatening injuries.

Police rushed to the spot late in night. However no arrest has been made. Police have beefed up security measures to avoid further such attacks.

The blasts occur two months after one such shack of migrant workers was attacked killing 9 and injuring 11 others.
