: For Antonio Costa, Goa brought back a rush of childhood memories. The Prime Minister of Portugal recalled fondly how, as a child, he was called Babush, a popular pet name in Konkani, in the State.
Mr. Costa interacted with presspersons after his meeting with the Governor of Goa, Mridula Sinha, at the Raj Bhavan.
Ms. Sinha expressed her happiness that the Prime Minister of Portugal was of Indian origin. She also spoke of how Goa was a special place because it had so much to offer culturally and historically.
After the talks, Mr. Costa was taken on a tour of the Raj Bhavan. At a function to release the English translation of his poet and novelist father Orlando Costa’s Portuguese play Sem Caras Nem Coros , an emotional Mr. Costa said, “I feel proud visiting my father’s land. This visit is strongly emotional for me. My father went to Lisbon but never left Goa. Goa was always present in his works. Therefore, when I speak of my father, I am reminded of a character in one of his works that says ‘Wherever I go or am taken, I will always be in my homeland’”.
Born in the Portuguese colony of Mozambique in 1929, Orlando Costa migrated to Goa along with his family
