The Supreme Court on Thursday reserved orders on a batch of writ petitions challenging the constitutional validity of the notifications the government issued to set up the Justice Majithia Wage Board for journalists and non-journalists on a new pay structure and to direct the newspaper managements to implement its recommendations.
A Bench of Chief Justice P. Sathasivam and Justices Ranjan Gogoi and Shivakirti Singh reserved orders on petitions filed by ABP Ltd., Bennett Coleman and Co. Ltd., which publishes The Times of India and other newspapers and the Indian Newspaper Society after a marathon hearing from September last. The petitions challenged the Wage Board’s report submitted in December 2010 and the notification issued by the government in November 2011.
