Ahead of a likely trial of strength in Lok Sabha on the proposed cut motion on the Finance Bill, the Congress on Monday said the government was in absolutely no danger.

“The government is in a comfortable position and absolutely in no danger,” Congress spokesperson Manish Tiwari told reporters here while referring to the opposition’s move to bring cut motion on the Finance Bill.

Applauding the government’s performance, he said despite the bad monsoon and global slowdown, there is a growth of 7 per cent in the GDP.

If a cut motion is adopted, the government of the day will have to resign because it is defeated on a money matter.

The BJP-led NDA and the 13-party grouping brought together by the Left parties have separately announced plans to bring cut motions to force government roll back hike in the prices of petroleum products and fertilisers.

Congress has issued a three-line whip to its members asking them to be present in the House and vote in favour of the demands as also the Finance Bill, whose passage marks the completion of the budgetary exercise. It has also asked its UPA allies to follow suit.
