The Chhattisgarh police on Sunday claimed to have inflicted “heavy damage” on the Maoists during a 48-hour, major anti-Maoist operation named “Operation Prahar” in Bastar region. More than 1,500 security personnel from the CRPF, the STF, the DRG, and CoBRA entered Maoist areas in Sukma and Bijapur district of Bastar on Friday.
South Sukma, the target
The main target of the “Operation Prahar” was south Sukma, where the Maoists’ military battalion operates.
“For the first time, we entered and conducted an operation in the Maoists’ core area in Sukma and successfully recovered a Maoist’s dead body along with an SLR. For 48 hours, our forces were in that area and inflicted heavy damage on the Maoists. There is a possibility of minimum 15 to 20 Maoists being killed in this operation. This is a big moral boosting achievement for our forces,” Mr.Vivekanand Sinha, the Inspector General of Police, Bastar range, told The Hindu .
The security forces had suffered two casualties and five STF personnel were injured in the operation on Friday.
Mr Sinha added that one of the injured jawans succumbed to injuries on Saturday night.
