Karnataka Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa has rescinded his order to allot house sites to members of the Indian cricket team for the World Cup victory following legal hurdles in fulfilling the promise. Instead, the players will be given a cash award of Rs. 25 lakh each.

On Saturday, after the World Cup victory, the Chief Minister announced that each cricketer would be given a site measuring 4,000 square feet in a prime layout.

Legal hurdles

The State government had dropped the proposal to allot sites following “suggestions.” “Though we were interested in rewarding the cricketers with the sites, there are many legal hurdles,” he said

It should be noted that an applicant for a house site sold by the Bangalore Development Authority should be a domicile.

Mr. Yeddyurappa said the government would invite the whole team to Bangalore and present the cash awards.

The Chief Minister's decision has brought cheer to those who were opposed to sites being given away to cricketers.
