One person was killed and another injured when a man on board a train opened fire on some fellow passengers following an altercation with them near Piplod railway station, railway police said on Sunday.

The incident took place late on Saturday night in the general compartment of Awadh Express between Dahod and Piplod railway station, 25 km east of Godhra, they said.

According to police, an altercation broke out between some passengers in a general coach over a petty issue, following which one of them fired two rounds killing a man and injuring another.

“The passenger who fired from his pistol and his aide jumped off the train and escaped,” police said adding that the duo were yet to be identified.

The person who was killed has been identified as Narendra Thakur, a resident of Uttar Pradesh, while the injured is Monu Yadav also from the same state, they said.

A case has been registered with the Godhra railway police and further investigations are on, police added.
